The Hard Truth about getting anywhere in this industry:

Anyone who thinks it's easy to make a living in the jewellery world is either of a generation that walks sleeps and eats social media...or your living in cloud cookoo land.

Not being a fan of technology or social media, I have not made my presence in this arena my priority. I realise though that your status on social media is the currency you are selected for opportunities within this field. Despite this being contrary to the narrative the gatekeepers to such opportunities poport...I believe they are (on the whole not all) lying!

If you don't have a decent sized following...'they' (the gateKeepers) are not interested in investing in you. Someone's art, more specifially how good it is, is to a large extent subjective. And therefore this is not the only criteria considered when being selected for: Galleries/Craft Fairs/Exhibitions etc.

I used to think there was a lot of nepatism within this industry and there may well be, but it's more about what does the artist bring to the table as far as how many followers do you have and therefore how much of an audience will you bring to us. Social media presence is the most important currency.

This has taken me several years to figure out/come to terms with.

So......with that said. I have decided to invest in some help in this regard. Like many in my generation. I find social media boring. I'm a people person and I thrive in face to face communication. Social media is cold cruel and can be extremely disheartening. Comparison is the thief of joy. I think this is a 'bastadised' quote but it fits here.

I am paying the lovely Elyse and her sweet lovely husband Anthony to come help me make soc. media videos!! I have actually been making loads of my own high velocity videos in the background but I feel they need to be much improved in order to gain the traction I need them to gain the audience/following, required to achieve my objectives: Get in Galleries/Get into Craft Fairs etc etc.

So whatch this space, and start following me on Insta and youtube, hopefully soon there will be lots of really cool videos going up.
